This year, the event gathered 13.054 professionals from 37 different countries, bringing together the Maritime,Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries to Brazil.
During the 7th edition of Navalshore –Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Expo and Conference, organized during August 11th, 12th and 13th, in Rio de Janeiro, a statement by the president of Transpetro, Sérgio Machado, described the current strong market situation being experienced by the sector and the event itself, with consistent growth year after year: “This is the century of the Brazilian Maritime Industry”. In 2010, Navalshore was named by the market as a strategically important show to the supply chain of the Maritime, Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries in Brazil.
Representatives from 37 different countries and regions came to exchange technologies and knowledge. Among the group of 320 exhibitors, visitors could find companies from Norway, Argentina, Belgium, Canada, China, South Korean, Spain, Finland, Netherlands, Italy, Japan, and the United States.
The event registered 13.054 professionals visiting the show, surpassing the expectation of the organizers of the show United Business Media Limited – UBM had announced the acquisition of the majority of Navalshore few months ago.
Navalshore manager, Bárbara Nogueira stated that with the success of the event, “more than 50% of the exhibitors have already renewed their participation in Navalshore 2011”. The event will be held from August 3rd to 5th, at the Sul América Exhibitions Center, in Rio de Janeiro
According to the director of UBM do Brasil, Joris van Wijk, for next year, the trade show will expand 55% in terms of exhibition area. “This year, Navalshore had almost 6,800 square meters, but in 2011 the event area will be 10,500 square meters”, he affirmed.
Besides enhancing the trade show in 2011, UBM’s goal is to apply to Navalshore all its expertise in the trade shows organization for the maritime industry.
UBM is responsible for the organization of Marintec, the biggest event for this industry in China and the main meeting point for the international sector; also of Sea Japan, the most important event of the maritime industry in Japan, both events have been adopted by companies from all over the world as an essential forum for the showcasing of products and services in the Chinese and Japanese market; and of Cruise Shipping Miami, is also another important event for the maritime sector organized by UBM.
At the first day of Navalshore, Transpetro’s president was very optimistic and highlighted that “”Brazil has gained the respect of the world due to the fact that it has today the biggest maritime demand globally.

I have no doubt that the surge in confidence will attract many investors to Brazil via Navalshore”
International presence
Among the countries represented at Navalshore 2010, was the participation of the Argentinean Maritime Industry Federation . The organization brought representatives from 7 of the 20 Argentinean shipyards and announced at the show a cooperation agreement with the Sinaval (Sindicato Nacional da Indústria da Construção e Reparação Naval e Offshore).
Companies from Asia were also present at the event. The Chinese New Dafang Heavy Industry Science & Technology LTD, for example, plans to offer the Brazilian market its expertise in design and machinery project engineering for the maritime industry. “We are talking with several shipyards and we are sure that very soon we will close very productive deals”, said Tony Lin, the representative of the company.
Organized in a pavilion at Navalshore were11 Korean companies represented several segments of the maritime industry. Young-Jin Kim, sales director of TK Corporation, his company specializing in maintenance and repair of pipelines, said that the company does not have any Brazilian clients at the moment, but the goal is to establish contacts with many companies, especially Transpetro. “Korea is a very strong player in the maritime industry, and we believe that Brazil is evolving quickly. Therefore, being here, at Navalshore, is mandatory”, stated Young-Jin Kim.
The Japanese are also very interested in the Brazilian market. Masao Sasaki, the representative of the 13 company delegation that came to Brazil, agreed that the maritime industry in Brazil is becoming more and more demanding for new technologies. “We have spoken with several entrepreneurs and they are very interested in enlarging their knowledge about Japanese software and maritime equipment”, reveled Sasaki.
Companies from Finland also had a strong presence at the event. They occupied an exclusive pavilion at Navalshore. Ninni Arion, responsible for the presence of the Finland entrepreneurs, explained that the group of six companies came with the objective to consolidate partnerships with Brazilians companies. “Besides Navalshore in Brazil, we also participate in other international events such as Sea Japan and Marintec China” ”.
The Norwegian Scana do Brasil Indústrias Ltda is an example of foreign companies that believe in the Brazilian growth potential. According to its representative, Alexandre Batista Araújo, Scana have been present in Brazil for six months to participate in the steel, gas and maritime sectors.
